Barker, William 1918

William Barker. Died 9 April 1918

William’s army service was with the Northumberland Fusiliers (42771) 1/5th Battalion. He had previously been in the Royal Berkshire Regiment 5th Battalion. He died on 9th April 1918 and his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert memorial. From his medal record we do know that he went to France on 30th May 1915, presumably with the Berkshires.

Northumberland Fusiliers Badge

William was the son of Henry and Mary Ann and he was born in East Hampstead, london and enlisted in Reading. We are as yet unable to find his family in Wokingham, although he was living in Wescott Road (from the photograph) after 1911 (not listed in the census).
