Charles Henry Brown. Died 20 November 1918

Charles was born about 1897 and was the only son of John and Mary(Ann) Brown of Wokingham.  In 1911 they lived in Forest Road and John worked as a labourer.

Machine Gun Corps Badge

We can find out little about Charles’ service but he became a Sergeant in the Machine Gun corps, 4th Battalion  and sadly died not long after the armistice on 20th November 1918. His parents must have hoped to have been spared the loss of their only child when the Armistice came, only to receive that much dreaded telegram. He is buried in Valenciennes.
